New York. - I hate it when I'm right sometimes. If you ask my wife it doesn't happen often, but it does happen on occasion. Watching last night's 3-2 loss by NYCFC as they (and Black Players For Change/team captain Sean Johnson celebrated Juneteenth, RESPECT) to the New England Revolution I kept thinking I hate it when I'm right. This team had the momentum, they had the chance to take an early lead and set the tone. In the first 20 minutes, A penalty kick by Castellanos in the 12th minute with a save by Revolution goalie Matt Turner (I'll discuss him in a bit) as well as 2 more on target by the 21st minute and this game had the makings of an impressive win; or a heartbreaking loss. With the team playing downhill and New England still without a shot of any kind by the 25th minute I remember commenting to my fellow Spanglish Sports World journalist Robin that giving up a goal after that kind of output is the absolute most emotionally crushing thing that can happen to a team. Fast forward LITERALLY 2 minutes later on a right foot volley by Revolution forward Gustavo Bou and just like that, NY is down 1-0. I hate when I'm right sometimes. Or maybe I'm just bad luck, they are 0-2-1 in the last three games I've been in the press box, I dunno.

To New York's credit, after the score went into halftime 1-0, NY fought back not once but twice in a score-heavy second half. Thiago, in his first game after FINALLY getting his Visa issue resolved, immediately made his presence felt with a goal 11 minutes into the second half with a shot off the right post. He did pick up a yellow card for Excessive Celebration for taking off his shirt after the goal but that's just the small mechanics you have to work on with a new player. Then down 2-1, they tied again at the 85th minute on another goal by Ismael, off a rebound from Thiago. But immediately in the 88th minute as former Gent In Blue Thomas McNamara scored against his former team for the game winner.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this however. It was also the first start and the first game at “home” for Talles Magno. The 18 year old did display the talent yesterday so at least for the moment I could see what the team saw in him to drop 12 million and surprisingly snag him from Real Madrid. Sorry, not sorry Europe. but seeing both of these young imports from Brazil gives me hope for the moment.

Credit where it's due. Revolution goalie Matt Turner straight carried that team last night. The arguably best goal tender in MLS turned away 7 of 9 shots on target, and few were easy saves. It was the kind of night that EASILY could have been a 5-6 goal night for NYCFC but it wasn't meant to be. Coming up on short rest they're at “home” against both Atlanta & followed by DC United on Sunday. No rest for the weary, however no time to dwell on the past either.
