TORONTO. - Following last week’s embarrassing loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and infamous Zamboni driver/emergency goalie David Ayres, the Toronto Maple Leafs picked themselves off the mat and posted one of their most impressive -- and important -- weeks of the season. The blue and white won both games on their Florida road trip, downing the high flying Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 and, in a key battle for third place in the Atlantic Division and a playoff spot, defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3. The Buds then returned home and outfought the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

TORONTO. – Week 4 of the XFL saw teams continue to build on early trends to begin the season, whether it be in the winning or losing direction. Saturday featured games between L.A. and New York, as well as Seattle taking on St. Louis. Sunday saw an all-Texas matchup between the Roughnecks and Renegades before DC and Tampa Bay closed out the action.

Black History Month: Althea Gibson

In celebration of Black History Month, we are continuing our acknowledgment of pioneers in their sport. Last week we highlighted some of the African-American Jockeys that dominated the Kentucky Derby. Women's tennis was similar to most other sports in the 1940s, and the United States Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA) did not allow African-American's to participate. Instead, the American Tennis Association (ATA) is where Althea Gibson received her start in tennis.
