Toronto. - Lowry came into Media Day making it clear how hungry, ambitious and ready for more he is this upcoming season. He admitted that now that he’s got a taste of what winning a Championship is like, he wants it more. “I’m motivated now more than ever. You get a taste of it and you want to continue that feeling” stated Lowry.
With his usual humorous nature, Lowry spoke with the media about winning the Championship, mentoring the younger players, and the upcoming Christmas game that the Raptors earned.
Masai Ujiri expressed his interest in keeping Lowry after his free agency. “It’s been a long time. I’ve been the longest here, I helped bring the Championship home. I’m not worried about the free agency”, Lowry stated, giving fans a look at what his future with the Raptors may look like.
Lowry’s physical health has been in question since the injuries he sustained during the playoffs last season, his thumb injury being the most prominent. He stated that he is feeling great, but he is not where he wants to be.
For athletes, physical health is the most important thing. With the high level of intensity that these athletes play, injuries are hard to avoid.
He went on to say, “I’m not where I want to be, physically, mentally, it’s still a work in progress, but I feel good”. Using the time between now and the start of the regular season to get as healthy as possible is important.
Kyle spoke on the significance of the team getting to play a Christmas game. When asked about it he said “It’s going to be great. It’d be awesome”. For years, Raptors fans have been upset about not getting a Christmas day game, and now that the Raptors have become World Champions, they’re finally getting one.
When asked about the criticisms and lack of respect towards the Raptors Championship win, Lowry said that he does not care what others think. Further stating, “we know what we’ve accomplished. Who cares what other people think”? The veteran did acknowledge other members of the NBA who were very supportive and congratulated them on their victory.
Though Kyle has been enjoying the Championship win, he told the media that it might actually hit him when the banner is up, and the rings are given out.
While we wait for the regular season to start, Kyle Lowry and his teammates have a lot to work on together to build chemistry between each other.
