New York. - One of the advantages I have working and writing for Spanglish Sports World is we're allowed a little more leeway with regards to our personalities when writing these articles. So as a fan of NYCFC and covering the team, yes I have a hometown favoritism. I admit it. So tonight's match against Orlando made me, a fan, happy. 5 goals by 5 players and an obscene 15 to 3 ratio of shots on target made this easily the most one sided match this team has had this year. From minute one this was a match going NY's way. Orlando was all over the place; burning a ton of energy that would serve to burn them as the match went on. It took 40 minutes for the first goal to get scored; a left footed rocket off the foot of Jesus Medina for his team leading 7th of the season and almost equally important, NOT giving up a tying goal going into the half. That's been an issue with this team in the past; allowing your opponents to carry momentum into the second half with a late tying goal.

Second half? The floodgates opened. Goals by Izzy, Maxi Moralez, Amundsen and Taty Castellanos turned this into a laugher against the 3rd place team in the east. And yes, Taty got in on the action to break a goal streak that's lasted 9 games going into this one. In the end, they matched or set the mark in goals, shots and shots on target for the year. 5 goals matched the game against Cincinatti, plus 23 shots and the aforementioned 15 on goal (to 3 by Orlando) were also team highs this year. This is a team with a ton of momentum going up to their rematch against Columbus.

5 Notes

1) The shots have absolutely been there of late. Over the past 7 matches they've out shot their opponents 121 to 58 (and 44 to 23 on goal). I asked coach Ronny Delia in the pregame presser about the shot ratio and he talked about how close they were to finishing shots. They finished shots tonight.

2) Although he wasn't challenged, Luis Barraza recorded his second straight shut out. Kudos.

3) This was the first game at Yankee Stadium that allowed full capacity. It took 8 matches, but between partial capacity and the team playing at “home” at Red Bull Arena this was the first home game this year that actually felt like a home game with over 13,000 people in attendance.

4)  With their 5 goal outburst this evening, New York is now tied for 1st in MLS in goal differential with 11. They also now sit at 3rd over with 26 goals.

5) Their next match is on Friday at home against Columbus. On July 17 they did everything right against Columbus, out shooting their opponent 21 to 6 but losing 2 to 1. This will be a huge match for the team, as they have a chance to overtake 5th place Columbus for and possibly as high as 2nd in the East with a win.
