TORONTO. - With the National Lacrosse League (NLL) board of governors approving an eighteen game season plus playoffs, fans and players alike can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel to this pandemic.
The past twelve months had been challenging for the league, with different scenarios on how to get a season in were debated but never coming to fruition. Fans were starting to wonder if things would ever come back to normal. With the announcement of a season, hope and anticipation were now restored for everyone involved.
Having your favorite stars play on your favorite teams, as well as seeing the greatest players in the game today on the other teams, give one's mind a chance to rest, and concentrate on other issues than just the pandemic. The excitement of the game, the physicality and finesse, mixed with joining people with a common interest, is a breath of fresh air, allowing the mind an escape.
The true lacrosse experience is far more than just attending a game. The community is small and tight-knit, with fans often traveling from city to city with their teams, mingling with other cities fans, as well as sightseeing, and helping each other’s economies. Although for sixty minutes they are enemies, the friendships and camaraderie outside of the game are lifelong, which had been sadly missed during this pandemic.
Businesses near the venues could also find reasons to get excited, knowing that with a gate driven league like the NLL, fans would be returning to watch games, and in turn patronize their businesses once again.
The biggest thing to help the human psyche and heal the feelings of loneliness has always been anticipation of events, i.e., vacations, events, sports, etc. With the league going forward starting in December, fans can now start to breathe a sigh of relief, knowing things will eventually go back to normal sooner than later.
