The Argos losing streak continues

TORONTO. – The Argos don’t seem to be able to protect their end zone whether they are at home or on the road. In what was supposed to give this football team a change of scenery and direction turned out to be another slaughter from the sound of the whistle.

 

The Blue Bombers attacked on the first atempt and proved why they are the # 1 team in the CFL as Lucky Whitehead ran 104 yard in the ensuing kickoff for the first score of the game. It has been 16 years since Winnipeg has managed this feat. The Argos now fall to 0-4 in the demolishing defeat of 48-21 to the Bombers.

 

To further enhance the blow the Double Blue set a new franchise losing starting record that supersedes the prior of 1993. They are also 0-11 on the road.

 

The 24, 187 Winnipeg faithful that attended the game watched a superb demonstration of accuracy by QB Matt Nichols as he connected with Andrew Harris, Darwin Adams and Nic Demski for touchdowns while Chris Streveler ran in the final TD of the night with 31 seconds to go in the game from 23 yards out.

 

The bombers also completed field goals from 22, 52, 13 and 31 yards out by Justin Medlock

 

"It was a win and we’re happy about it, but we’ve got to be cleaner than that," said Harris, who had 14 carries for 116 yards. "As an offence we definitely need to be better and close out that game in a better fashion."

 

In the Toronto side QB Bethel Thompson completed 22 of 39 attempts for 388 yards

 

Bethel-Thompson took the responsibility of the game on his back saying that he failed to communicate with his offensive line properly.

 

"When we do that well and we are on the same page, we're dynamic," he said. "We have a lot of weapons and it showed tonight at times, but when we aren't that offence and we're down, it looks ugly."

 

Toronto head coach Corey Chamblin said the team shows flashes of coming out, but mistakes get in the way of building consistency. Now he must ensure the players stay focused and motivated.

 

"There's going to be a certain group of men in that room that hell or high water they're going to fight," Chamblin said. "There's going to be a couple in that room that fold, that's any football team when you're in an adverse situation.

 

"Hopefully, there's more men that's going to fight than fold because that's how you get it turned around."

 

The Argos now continue their west coast tour when they face the Calgary Stampeders next Thursday.
