Toronto. - Valour FC’s Ali Musse scored in the 65th minute to seal a 4-2 win and three points on
the road against York 9 FC, who had been come into today's game following their 2-0
mid-week win over Pacific.
York 9 coach Jimmy Brennan went with a similar 4-1-4-1 formation with Nathan Ingham
in goal, Justin Springer, Luca Gasparotto, Morey Doner, and Daniel Gogarty on the
back-line, Wataru Murofushi, Kyle Porter, Joseph Di Chiara, Rodrigo Gattas, and
captain Manuel Aparicio in the midfield, and Simon Karlsson Adjei as the lone striker up
top.
York 9 didn’t waste any time getting on the scoresheet as the team moved the nicely off
the wings and showcased their great link up playmaking ability that resulted in a cross
into the box for Rodrigo Gattas, who used the space available to strike a perfect shot
behind Valour goalkeeper Tyson Farago.
Unfortunately for York 9 FC, the lead wouldn’t hold the lead for very long; Valor FC
would score off a corner kick, when forward Tyler Attardo connected with a header that
tied the game 1-1.
Valour would continue to press York 9’s defenders and it paid off as Dylan Sacramento
struck a powerful shot from outside the box that beat Ingham in the top corner, to give
Valour the 2-1 lead and control of the game.
York 9 was resilient following the two goals by Valour; Nathan Ingham made an
excellent save that some life on the counterattack. The team remained also aggressive
on both ends of the field and took risks with some of their shots. This was a positive
sign because York 9 kept themselves within striking distance and didn’t let the goals
change their mentality.
Ryan Telfer was subbed on to start the second half in hopes of providing more offence
for York 9 as they looked to tie the game. The 25-year-old was playing his first CPL
game since his international cap for Trinidad and Tobago, where he scored his first
international goal.
After some back and forth play for the first ten minutes of the half, Valour would score
yet again in the 55th minute, when they brought the ball up on the counterattack and
used their strength in numbers to extend their lead to 3-1.
Once again, York 9 FC wasn’t fazed by the score at all and got the goal back shortly
after, when Rodrigo Gattas scored his second of the game off a header to get the game
within one. The game continued to be a scoring affair as Valour would get the two goal
lead back off a great cross from Marco Buston to Ali Musse, who struck the ball behind
Ingham to give Valour the 4-2 lead and seal the victory.
