10 PREDICTIONS FOR THE FINALE OF TED LASSO – SPOILERS UP TO EPISODE 11

New Jersey. - Now with just one episode left we’re sadly nearing the end of the Emmy Award Winning series Ted Lasso. With only a week to go to the finale, the pieces are in place to close out pretty much every story line. With that, here are 10 things I believe will happen when the show reaches it’s end. Naturally, there be spoilers up to this point, let’s go.

1) Ted Goes Back To The States. Much has been said about Ted missing his son, more now with the end of the most recent episode and his confession to his mother of the raw pain it’s causing inside. Furthermore, each of the first two seasons had the first and last scenes centering around the character with the biggest change for the year; first Rebecca, then Nate. This time around (unsurprisingly) the season focused on Ted’s face. For him to feel content with what he’s accomplished in the U.K., he’ll move onto new adventures back closer to home as a new person than he was when he left. In that regard:

2) Beard Stays Behind. Episode 11 showed us at last the backstory between Coach Beard and Ted, with Ted looking out for Beard not only when Beard went to prison, but after stole Ted’s car as well. As a result he’s been fiercely loyal to Ted throughout, however it might be time for us to see them go their separate ways.

3) Jamie Will Reconcile (sort of) With His Father. The last episode explored Jaime’s relationship with not only his father, but his weirdly clingy relationship with his mother. Playing back in Manchester City Jamie took on the boos due someone who quit on the team, but learned that as he grew as a person, his ability to use hate towards his father was becoming a greater weakness, especially at the end of season two when we not only saw him punch his father, but the first real moment between him and Roy. In the end, not only did he send a text to his father, learning how to let go of his contempt to his old man, but his father is seen in what looked like rehab, trying to get clean and rooting on his son. While I don’t see father-son picnics in their future, I could see Jamie sitting down with his father and begin to patch things up.

4) They DON’T Come In First In the Final Match. I’m back and forth on this, but I have a feeling that it’s too easy for them to complete the Cinderella story and win the championship. The story in many ways hasn’t been about the wins & losses, but helping the team grow into greater people than they could have been on their own. I feel that coming in second in the league is the more realistic ending here.

5) Nate Becomes Richmond’s New Head Coach. Going back to where it all started and having Beard forgive him for the betrayal at the end of season two would allow The Wonder Kid to come full circle and take over the club where it all started for him. (possibly with his hair back to black again?) Additionally, I predict he will embrace the Wonder Kid name as opposed to Wunderkind persona he has been trying to forge for some time, being a new, confident person we’ve been waiting for him to become.

6) Roy and Keeley Will Legit Get Back Together. I actually thought Reeley was a thing back in episode 10 but episode 11 had them talking about just being friends while Roy confessing he wanted to be more. Part of me also thinks it’s possible Roy may quit football altogether but I’m going to backtrack on that and say he stays with the team.

7) We See Colin With a Boyfriend Among His Teammates. Colin has been accepted as gay by his teammates, so it seems only natural that he’s seen comfortable being with a guy in the finale.

8) There Will Be a Time Skip/Epilogue. Much of the story arch this season for Trent Crimm (Independent) is his book which he’s working on. I feel that they will fast forward a year or two to when the book is finished and published, plus add a little extra story element to some characters. If #4 is correct and they don’t win the Premier League title it’s possible that in that small time jump they win the trophy with Nate at the helm, possibly with Ted watching from the stands, proud of both his old team and the men they’ve become.

9) New Rebecca Will Divorce Rupert and His Credibility Will Be Ruined. Bex showing up in front of Rebecca at the end of episode 11 shows that she is in pain and that “Old” Rebecca is a kindred spirit who understands that pain. In this series I feel a lot of fans will be upset if something bad doesn’t happen to Rupert by the finale, and a redemption for his character might be even less well received. I see front page scandal for him, possibly with one of those spinny newspaper cliches.

10) There Will Be a Spinoff Focusing on Sam. With the success of this show in many ways it would be criminal to just be 34 episodes and done forever. I feel that Sam, with popularity as a character and with his restaurant could become a new series in itself. I’d watch it.
